Ride for Heart and BBQ #1

Posted in Blog at 23:00 by vchan

Ride for Heart. A great event where we get to shut down to major highways, screw up city traffic and ride on the road wo fear of getting squished by cars. Me, K and Rick decided to give it a shot. Now me and Rick had been training for a little bit beforehand, about ~3wks. K, I don’t think so much tho he and the missus were gettin out and riding closer to the event. Twas a good day for riding 50 kms. We all had signed up for the early 7:15 am start time but r was late coming to my house and by the time we got down there it was 7:45, so we missed our start time. Then i decided to drop the bikes on their back tires as I was takin the bikes off the rack and that bounced the chains off the gears, geez what a dumbass I am! They also told me as they were taking a look at my bike that my bottom bracket was loose tho they didn’t have the tools to fix it there, so I figure I’ll take it to Skiis & Biikes after to get it looked at. Although the forecast did call for rain, it only spat for a minute or two on the way back. Everyone was glad they got out and did it but they were sure beat. I caught them napping on the way back in the car =)

After I get home I rush to sobeys and buy everything I need. Most importantly, I got the half-pounders. I don’t like to waste food but i’m proud to say that everyone finished their burger, altho some only had the patty like a steak. Oh well, to each his/her own. It was a good thing I setup up my eating ‘tent’ but unfortunately, it poured like a bitch and I had to bbq in the rain a little. J also brought a cake over since it was s’ bday coming up so we little a candle and did a little bday thing for him. Too bad some ppl had to leave early and were left outta the bday celebrations.

Mountain biking at Blue Mountain

Posted in Blog at 22:54 by vchan

So May two-four weekend Monday we head up to Blue Mountain for some cross-country/off-roading lessons in the morning and downhill lessons in the afternoon. Our instructor, Justin, was great. A patient guy who put up with us pretty well.

I think everyone had a great time. No serious injuries were had by anyone though everyone had some bruises and tumbles. Rick lost pressure on his front brake line so he and justin switched bikes and he survived. Somehow S flipped over his bike, landed in the forest and threw his bike up into a tree…go figure. Password was trailing behind a little and we regrouped, waiting for him to come out. We yelled for him a few times and heard him yell back. We didn’t make out exactly what he said but we assumed he was okay. When a whole bunch of ppl came out but pw didn’t, Justin and j had to go rescue him. Apparently he was yelling ‘help’, LOL.

I had a blast and want to get my own dh bike so I can head back and hit the trails! Pix are up: http://www.vchan.ca/menalto-gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=1520
